A few things to know.

Are these verified costs for my fellowship?

No. The 26 starting scenarios combine published guidance and editorial assumptions. Other destinations require your own quotes. Check the source notes and replace each amount with a figure that fits your dates and eligibility.

What should I ask my host?

Confirm the net stipend after deductions, first payment date, housing access and deposit, required insurance, and which visa, travel and setup costs are reimbursed. Ask when reimbursements are paid.

Can I use this budget with a partner or children?

Starting scenarios assume one adult. Replace all six amounts for your household, including family housing and insurance. Add dependent visas, schooling and travel to your own planning; these are not included by default.

What happens to my saved data?

Saved plans and checklist progress stay in local browser storage. They do not sync between devices and may disappear if browser data is cleared. Use Download my budget to keep a CSV copy. Remove saved plans individually below their comparison cards.

A clearer budget starts with honest assumptions.

Use published guidance to understand the evidence, then enter your own quotes. Older starter scenarios contain editorial assumptions and are labelled separately. Unknown amounts remain blank. Housing eligibility, short stays, insurance and tax treatment can change your costs. Deposits, visa fees and travel belong in your separate arrival plan.

Locations are reconciled against source exports from our fellowship directory network. Aliases preserve older budget links. Directory coverage does not mean cost research is complete. Read the full methodology and coverage rules.

Use any currency with your own exchange rate

If your currency is missing, enter its three-letter code and a positive rate. This manual rate will be used for display and stipend conversion.
